Following the success of our pilot system, we took the leap of faith and invested in a 3-bay greenhouse set up that offers 13,000 sq. ft. of controlled environment grow space. Each bay of the greenhouse houses 2 Deep Water Culture (DWC) grow troughs that receive the filtered aquaponic water from the fish tanks.
Seedlings are then placed into styrofoam raft boards that float atop the grow troughs allowing the plant roots to uptake nutrients from the oxygenated water flowing beneath.
A combination of extractor fans, ventilation, and shading techniques help to keep the greenhouse cool enough to grow crops year round, and we continue to employ new techniques to improve our greenhouse environment.
